26.10.17...MY COUNTRY 'TIS OF THEE 4
“The world is governed by very different personages from what it it is imagined by those who are not behind the scenes.”
So spoke Benjamin Disraeli who as a Victorian Tory Prime Minister surely knew what he was talking about in alluding to the powerful Establishment that held power, before, during and after his day up to the present.
No one suggests that this Establishment was/is a deliberate conspiracy. It simply came into being as a means of the closely family-tied rich and powerful plus those aspiring to join them, to preserve and extend their eminence. Their presence has left many in no doubt that the British state exists to protect the strong from the weak, never the weak from the strong.
Power and influence is not subject to those affected by it but to the richest 1% who own more than the poorest 55% put together; the owners and operators of an overwhelmingly right-wing press; top
civil servants and Oxbridge academics; senior officers in the armed forces, Anglican bishops , in short “The Great and the Good,” reinforced in Parliament by their political wing, the Conservative Party.
Of course we are allowed to vote, but since when did voting ever bring about long and lasting change? If it did, would we still be allowed to do it?
(To be concluded).
