CONNECTIONS 1. THE FISHING.
My simplified family tree and the rise and fall of the east coast fisheries.
Richard (1807-80) was farm labourer, harvesting the land and in autumn, the sea. .
Youngest son, Samuel 1846-1892 went straight into the new sail trawling.
His son, Thomas 1874-1921, my grandfather started in sail rrawlers and transferred to the new steam drifters
His son, Thomas (1874-1957), my father, sailed on
steam drifters until the late 1940s,
I worked at the chalk-face instead.
