South of the Dogger.
To Elizabeth, the rest of my family, residents of Trafalgar Road and to Deep Sea Fishermen everywhere, past, present and future.
This blog is not intended to be a definitive study of the East Coast fisheries nor of the whole fishing community of Great Yarmouth. It is rather a snapshot of the interaction between the fishing industry, part of the town and the residents of one particular street…Trafalgar Road, Gorleston-on-sea, Norfolk, during the second half of the nineteenth century.
The study will be presented in serial form and largely through primary source material. The interpretation of it is mine. The text is under each photograph. Each illustration leads onto the next in squence.
